A British Labour party led by Jeremy Corbyn is a national security risk, says UK Defense Secretary Michael Fallon just hours after the newly-elected leader wins the party’s leadership in a landslide victory.

"Labour are now a serious risk to our nation's security, our economy's security and your family's security,” said a statement by Fallon released by the Conservative Party’s press office on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, Corbyn won the Labour leadership race with 59.5 percent of the votes in the first round.

The defense secretary added that Corbyn’s election is a very serious moment for Britain adding that the Tories will still be there to deliver stability, security and opportunity for the people.

“Whether it's weakening our defenses, raising taxes on jobs and earnings, racking up more debt and welfare or driving up the cost of living by printing money - Jeremy Corbyn's Labour Party will hurt working people,” he noted.

The internal election was held after former leader Ed Miliband resigned following his Labour party's defeat in May’s UK general election.

The 66-year-old parliamentary veteran’s political mindset is close to the one promoted by European anti-austerity movements. Corbyn insists that there has to be public investment in order to boost economic growth in Britain.

Corbyn’s policies include spending more on public services like schools and hospitals, scrapping nuclear weapons, and renationalizing industries like the rail transport.
