Press TV has interviewed Ibrahim Mousavi, a political commentator based in Beirut, to ask for his take on role of the US and its allies on the unrelenting Saudi aggression against Yemen.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: King Salman goes to the White House and then as soon as he gets back we have troops from Qatar that have been deployed to the streets and the Saudi bombardments have actually increased, shows the US role in this. Who is directing this war? Do you think it is just Saudi Arabia or is the US dictating some of the terms?

Mousavi: When you talk about the aggression against Yemen, you are talking about a combination of so many different countries that are working against the Yemeni people that are perpetrating their massacres against the Yemenis, against the civilians, against the infrastructure. You are talking about a litany; about a series of war crimes that are being perpetrated, that are being carried out. And here when you talk about it, you are talking about so many different [Persian] Gulf countries of course Saudi Arabia. The United States is there and continuing to funnel and to sell as much arms as it could for the [Persian] Gulf countries especially Saudi Arabia in order to target Yemen and other places.

We know very well this is something that is not only limited to Saudi Arabia. We are talking about, unfortunately, so many Arab countries and also from the Western side. We know very well that the European countries, the West generally (the United States basically), are supporting the Saudis and their aggression against the Yemenis. They are not giving enough space or opportunity for the negotiations to take place. They are not opening any wedge in the tunnel in order to make any glimpse of hope for the people to come into any common ground, but we know very well that the steadfastness, the determination and the will of the Yemeni people to resist against the Saudi aggression is gaining more and more success as on the ground and I believe this what is going to bring them into the table of the negotiations. This is something that we heard is going on now. We have different options that are racing together. My understanding is that we will not have like long time before we see something crystallizing if things continue the way they are now.

Press TV: It is by many accounts for lack of a better word shocking how Western media has pretty much put a black out on this war on Yemen. At the same time, there has been news of how US is giving intelligence to Saudi Arabia, but yet, we hear about how orphanages and hospitals are being bombed. It is very much similar to the way Israel has bombed the
Gaza Strip on several occasions, very much of similar pattern that we see there in terms of the death and the destruction.

Mousavi: Absolutely. If you want to make a comparison between what is happening in Saudi Arabia and the closet scene that could be really compared is Gaza or Lebanon under the 2006 aggression that has been launched by Israelis against Lebanon. Also, when you talk about the whole rampage that has been done by the Israelis in the different countries that they attacked, yes of course; if you do not show the names of the places or wherever, you would expect that they are same places whether in Gaza or in Yemen. This is because of a very simple fact. You are talking here about a criminal mentality that is targeting the civilians; also you are talking about coverage. They are not afraid that they are going to be called red-handed, they are not afraid that they are going to be sued as war criminals by the United States because of the cover that is being served by the United States to both Saudi Arabia’s perpetrators and Israelis’ as well. So, here we do not only talk about the direct criminal; we also talk about the countries, we also talk about the system that is protecting them and giving them a kind of immunity to make them feel that they can carry and continue with their massacres and with their perpetrations against the Yemen people or Palestinian people.
