Saudi Arabia against peace with Yemen: Academic

Press TV has conducted an interview with Lawrence Davidson, a professor at the West Chester University from Pennsylvania, to ask for his insights into the relentless Saudi bombardment of Yemen.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: According to the UN special envoy for Yemen, there are going to be peace talks. How well does that sit with Saudi Arabia who started the war illegally and unilaterally?

Davidson: I don’t think that these peace talks are going to make any major breakthrough, largely because the Saudis and their allies will continue the war even as these alleged peace talks go on. And so, essentially it’s really a façade .... Though I guess it’s better to talk than not to talk at all, but I don’t expect it to lead anywhere, because the Saudis really don’t want peace, they want to destroy Yemen essentially.

Press TV: Will Saudi Arabia ever be held accountable and will it ever be forced to compensate for the death and destruction it has caused?

Davidson: Not now in our life time. I don’t want to be glib about this, but who’s going to force them, who’s going to force this accountability on them. One might ask: How do we make Israel accountable? The only wary really to eventually bring about accountability is to change the ruling regime. And if you can do that maybe you can bring in people who have some conscience and will help rebuild Yemen. Of course this won’t bring back all the dead.
