US made Iran nuclear accord to focus on China war: Activist

“You can’t understand the nuclear deal with Iran unless you grasp the pivot to Asia,” Iosbaker said.

The Obama administration made the nuclear agreement with Iran in order to focus on its policy of a “pivot” to the Asia-Pacific region and prepare for a possible conflict with China, an anti-war activist in Chicago says.

US President Barack Obama modified the war policy of his predecessor, George W. Bush, and wants to avoid another major conflict in the Middle East, said Joe Iosbaker, a leader of the United National Antiwar Coalition.

“He brought about a change in war policy from the old Bush-era policy of preparing to fight two major wars to preparing to fight one,” Iosbaker told Press TV on Wednesday.

“You can’t understand the nuclear deal with Iran unless you grasp the pivot to Asia,” he added.

Iosbaker said US Secretary of State John Kerry’s recent call to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to assure continued US security assistance underscores that Washington will continue to create conflicts around the world.

“The US has been engaged in endless war for 14 years and that will continue,” the activist observed. “The tiger hasn’t changed its stripes.”

“The occupation of Palestine will continue with US support and Kerry’s call is meant to reassure Israel that they will be rearmed and backed for their next war on Gaza,” he noted.

Kerry discussed the Vienna nuclear accord with Netanyahu and reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to Israel’s security in a telephone call over the weekend, State Department Spokesman John Kirby said on Tuesday.

"The secretary and the prime minister reiterated the need to continue pushing back on Iran's destabilizing activities in the region, and he agreed to continue to have these discussions in the coming weeks," Kirby told reporters in Washington, DC.

Kerry also said military cooperation with Israel will continue as before.

The top US diplomat made the phone call shortly after the White House won enough Democratic votes in the Senate to block a resolution against the Iran agreement.

Iran and the P5+1 group of countries – the US, Britain, France, Russia, China, and Germany – announced the conclusion of nuclear negotiations in the Austrian capital on July 14.
