US Congress run by corrupt Israel lobby: Peace activist

Israel has too much influence in the United States Congress, an anti-war activist and journalist in Maine says.

Any opposition in the United States against the Iran nuclear accord highlights Israel’s “enormous” influence on US foreign policy and on American lawmakers who are under the control of the “corrupt” Zionist lobby, an anti-war activist and journalist in Maine says.

“The fact that there’s any opposition at all here in the US to the Iran deal illustrates the enormous, unwarranted power of the Israel lobby in our country,” said Bruce Gagnon, the coordinator of the Global Network Against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space.

“Even many so-called liberal Democrats are under the control of the very corrupt Israeli lobby that in many respects today runs the US Congress,” Gagnon told Press TV on Friday.

“The lesson to the American people should be that Israel has way too much influence in our Congress and Israel should not be determining US foreign policy,” he added.

“It’s clear that Israel and their agents in the United States; they’re the ones that want regime change in Iran,” he noted.

The peace activist made the comments after he was asked about a speech by US Vice President Joe Biden in Atlanta where he said opponents of the Iran nuclear agreement want to topple the government in Tehran.

“The only thing that would satisfy” the people opposing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) “is a change in regime,” Biden told Jewish leaders on Thursday.

Biden said the nuclear agreement is in the best interest of the US and Israel. "It will make us and Israel safer, not weaker."

The United States, Israel, and some of their allies accuse Iran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear program.

Iran rejects the allegation, arguing that as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
