US to remain ‘elephant in China shop’ by Petraeus idea

Al-Nusra Front militants drive in armed vehicles in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo as they head to a frontline, on May 26, 2015.

Working with al-Qaeda militants to fight with Daesh in Syria, an idea promoted by former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency David Petraeus, will only keep the US role of an “elephant in China shop,” says a Baltimore-based peace activist.

Sources have told The Daily Beast that Petraeus has been pushing the idea of using “more moderate” militants with the Nusra Front in order to confront Daesh terrorists in Syria.

The United States should start “realizing that more violence in the region will create greater problems,” Kevin Zeese told Press TV on Tuesday.

With similar ideas, Petraeus (seen above) “didn’t accomplish much” in Iraq in 2007 but instead created a situation “damaging” to the people of the war-battered country that became a haven for the terrorists of Daesh later, Zeese said.

A true effort to confront the Takfiris in Iraq, he suggested, would include supporting the government in Baghdad and cutting off Daesh “funding from the (Persian) Gulf states.”

The US cannot “win the hearts and minds of the people with more war” but should instead work with the Iraqi government to pave the way for the nation “to voice their concerns and impact their future,” said the political activist.

Fighting against Damascus and Baghdad in an attempt to create a so-called caliphate in the region, the Daesh terrorists have committed grotesque war crimes against the people and national heritage of the neighboring Muslim states.
