Thailand bombing probe leads to new suspect
Thailand’s police are seeking a new suspect in relation to the recent terrorist bombing that killed 20 people in the capital, Bangkok.
Security camera footage shows the blue-clad suspect pelting a bomb at a busy pier on Tuesday, the DPA quoted police spokesman Prawut Thavornsiri as saying on Saturday.
The explosive missed the pier and exploded in the river, with forensic teams spotting similarities between the incident and the attack on the previous day.
The attack, which targeted the Erawan shrine in downtown Bangkok, also injured more than 100 people.
An arrest warrant has been issued against the main suspect, an apparently young man, seen on CCTV footage wearing glasses and a yellow T-shirt, who places a backpack under a bench at the shrine minutes before the explosion.
Police are also seeking a woman seen dressed in black on security footage at the scene of the shrine bombing.
Police chief Somyot Poompanmoung left much to speculation regarding the attack by saying on Friday he cannot release all the information so far obtained by the law enforcement body about the blast.
The pier attack and the shrine blast, however, are not thought to be the work of international terrorist organizations, he said Friday.
