Islamic Jihad rejects Israel rocket fire claims

The Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine has rejected Israel’s claims that the resistance movement fired rockets from the Syrian territory against the regime’s positions near the occupied Golan Heights.

On Friday, Muhammad al-Hind, a senior leader of the resistance movement, dismissed the Israeli allegations that the Islamic Jihad had used the Syrian territory to launch rocket attacks against Tel Aviv, saying the movement “resists on Palestinian lands.”

Hind also warned the Israeli regime against targeting the Islamic Jihad resistance fighters, saying that “the movement knows how to defend its sons.”

The remarks came a day after Tel Aviv’s warplanes bombed an area in the southwestern Syrian province of Quneitra, in retaliation for rocket attacks allegedly launched from the Syrian soil against northern Israel. The assault left one person dead and seven others wounded.

In a similar act of violence before midnight Thursday, at least five civilians were killed when Israel carried out an airstrike on an area in Syria’s Quneitra close to the Israeli-occupied side of Golan Heights.

The two attacks came after the Israeli military said in a statement that “four rockets were launched from the Syrian Golan Heights, landing in the Upper Galilee” mountainous area near the Lebanese border and occupied Golan.

“This was the work of (Palestinian) Islamic Jihad ... and we consider the Syrian government responsible for the firing and it will suffer the consequences,” the statement claimed.

'Making way for fresh aggression'

Meanwhile, Daoud Shihab, the spokesperson of the Islamic Jihad, said the Israeli regime seeks to pave the ground for a new aggression by making such allegations against Damascus and the Palestinian resistance movement.

Tel Aviv is trying to “shuffle cards” in order to justify its aggressive moves in the region, he went on to say.

The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine also condemned the Israeli airborne assaults against Syria, calling on the international community to take action against the provocative moves of the Tel Aviv regime.

Israel should be held accountable for its crimes by the world community, it stressed.

The Syrian government says Tel Aviv and its Western and regional allies are aiding the Takfiri terrorist groups operating inside Syria.

The Israeli regime has taken advantage of the ongoing crisis in Syria by launching several artillery fire and airstrikes against the Arab country in recent years.

The foreign-sponsored conflict in Syria, which flared up in March 2011, has reportedly claimed more than 240,000 lives up until now.
