Iran women’s national futsal team has pulled off a crushing victory over Uzbekistan in a friendly match, and overwhelmed the opponents by a five-goal margin.
On Monday, the Iranian sportswomen outclassed the Uzbek side 7-2 in a match played at the 12,000-seater Azadi Sport Complex in western Tehran.
Nasimeh Gholami surprised Uzbekistan’s defense only two minutes into the match and opened the scoring for Iran.
The Iranian squad continued to exert their spell of pressure on the visitors, and it was Fatemeh Etedadi who doubled Iran’s lead in the 17th minute.
It took Uzbek female futsal players 18 minutes to score. They evened the score a minute later, before Gholami seized a golden opportunity and sealed her second to put Iran 3-2 ahead just before the breather.
The Iranian futsal players returned to action seemingly unwilling to relinquish. They dominated the second half for a couple of minutes, and the Uzbeks did not threaten.
Fereshteh Karimi got a perfect chance in the 21st minute and put the ball at the back of the net to make it four for the hosts.
In the 24th minute, Niloufar Ardalani seized the chance to score the fifth goal for Iran. Sepideh Zarrin-Rad got two marvelous scoring opportunities in the 32nd and 38th minute of the Monday showdown, and could successfully slip the ball past Uzbekistan’s goalkeeper and into the net.
“Our players put in a convincing performance. There are some issues that yet need to be worked on. We should work on how to maintain ball possession and score more goals so to improve day to day and deliver better displays in future games,” Iran’s head coach Forouzan Soleimani said after the match.
National Iranian and Uzbek women’s futsal teams will stage their second friendly match later on Tuesday.
