Iran’s Salar Aqili to perform at Milan Expo 2015

Iranian vocalist and musician, Salar Aqili, is set to perform traditional Persian music pieces at the 2015 Milan Expo in Italy.

“I am very happy to represent Iran and mark Iran’s National Day during the Milan Expo,” ISNA quoted Aqili as saying. 

Aqili said he would be accompanied by the Raz-o-Niaz ensemble, and they were planning a special program to introduce Iran’s traditional and classical music to the foreign audience at the event.

According to the managing director of the Institute for Promoting Contemporary Arts, Iranian and Italian officials as well as diplomats from over 100 countries have been invited to attend Iran National Day ceremony on August 23rd.

Mehdi Afzali said the participants will get the chance to enjoy various cultural programs, including folkloric music concerts as well as Naqqali, a style of storytelling in Persian literature dedicated to epic stories from Ferdowsi’s masterpiece ‘Shahnameh.’

Milan Expo 2015 opened on May 1 and will run until October 31st, 2015, hosting 145 countries, three international organizations, several civil society organizations, and several corporations and non-governmental organizations.

The Institute for Promoting Contemporary Arts, affiliated to Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance’s Department of Arts, is representing Iran at this year’s event.

The Iranian pavilion at the expo has organized various exhibitions, meetings, workshops and artistic performances to present the country’s rich history, traditions and culture.
