NBC network fires Donald Trump as Celebrity Apprentice host
The American broadcast network NBC has announced that White House hopeful Donald Trump will no longer host the competition series "Celebrity Apprentice."
“Due to circumstances that everyone here is aware of regarding our host — I should say former host,” NBC entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said Thursday. “We will not be producing a new edition of the show this season, but it will be back for the 2016-17 season with a new host.”
NBC reduced ties with Trump in June days after the outspoken presidential candidate made inflammatory comments about Mexican immigrants, calling them drug dealers and “rapists.”
Greenblatt said that Trump would not be completely banned from the network.
“I don’t think somebody who is running for president and might possibly be the next leader of the free world could be banned from any activities at NBC, but we’ll have to see how this plays out,” the executive said.
Trump remains the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination following a controversial debate in which the real estate magnate refused to pledge loyalty to the eventual GOP nominee.
During the first major GOP debate which was held last Thursday, Trump had a fiery exchange with Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, one of the event’s moderators.
Kelly asked Trump to respond to disparaging remarks he had made in the past about women, calling them "fat pigs," "dogs," and "slobs." Trump tried to wave off the question and dismissed Kelly.
Trump stirred more controversy the next day when he said on CNN that Kelly “had blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever” during the debate.
The 69-year-old drew outrage last month by denouncing the military record of Republican Senator John McCain.
