The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has announced it has successfully captured an Israeli drone that is now operational for use by its military wing.
The Skylark 1 drone was captured on July 22 over the besieged Gaza Strip and has since then been dismantled and reassembled and is fully operational, said a statement released by the group on Wednesday.
"Security checks were conducted, and the systems and technologies installed in the drone were examined, and then the unit rebuilt it and put the drone to use in the service of the al-Qassam Brigades," Hamas said in the statement.
“This is a great achievement... and a gift to the Palestinian people," the statement read. "This demonstrates the strength of our people and its resistance."
A video was also released on Hamas’ al-Aqsa television channel showing the UAV being operated by a Hamas member.
The Israeli military is yet to comment on the matter.
