Press TV has conducted an interview with Sabah Jawad, the director of the Iraqi Democrats against Occupation from London, to ask for his insight on a new wave of terrorist attacks in Iraq.
The following is a rough transcription of the interview.
Press TV: Now, there is this upsurge in violence, when it comes to Iraq, particularly these bomb attacks that happen and target places like Baquba and even cities like the capital Baghdad. What do you make of it? Many do say that this is a direct result of gains being made against the ISIL in other cities and areas.
Jawad: Yes, it is precisely the case. Also, this is not strange actually. There were many reports in Baghdad in the past few days that the ISIS (ISIL) is preparing to attack places and particularly Samarra against the holy shrines there as it happens, actually it happened in Baquba. And these atrocities actually are against civilian people. There are car bombs in marketplaces and so on, which is very difficult actually to detect and so on. And we have the experience of what’s happening in Diyala as well, some of the atrocities they seems that they’re because of the corruption level these people, terrorist groups are able to get information and sometime easy access to places, where they could commit such violent crimes. Also, it doesn’t help actually that the delay in the attack against the ISIS (ISIL) and their stronghold of Ramadi and Fallujah. And we see a very clear American role in that. The American role is trying to put pressure on their government actually to stop the Iraqi security forces and particularly mobilization forces and military forces to achieve important victory decisive and quick victories in Ramadi and Fallujah. And that gives the terrorist groups a breathing space to commit act of terrorism in other parts of ...
Press TV: How much of this can be resolved through the seven-point plan that was presented by Haider al-Abadi and also the plan that was presented by the Iraqi parliament to fight corruption in the country, which obviously goes in line with what Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani had also mentioned?
Jawad: It’s very important what’s happening in Iraq in regards to the fight against corruption and also the climate, which create corruptions in Iraq. The demonstrators not only demanding restoration of electricity supply in Iraq as we’ve seen the temperature in Iraq reaching 55’ which is extremely hot and people are suffering because of that. And that’s ignited actually people’s anger, but if you look at their demands actually, they’re wanting reform, they wanted accountability, they wanted sending the people, who have been as biggest corrupting influence and people who have sought millions of dollars. Don’t forget that even the electricity industry was more that 37 billion dollars were spent on it ...
