Iran’s Permanent Mission to the UN has rejected as “ridiculous” the recent claims in US media that Tehran is working to clean up the Parchin military site in an effort to remove what they called evidence of nuclear activities at the facility.
“Parchin military site is a vast area which includes various military, industrial, administrative and residential divisions, and thus construction operations are naturally and frequently conducted there,” read the statement issued by the Iranian mission in New York on Thursday.
The mission also stressed that the recent construction work in the area has nothing to do with the military site, adding that heavy machinery had been deployed near Parchin in an attempt to repair the adjacent road.
It further voiced regret over the release of such baseless reports following the recent breakthrough in the nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1, adding that the Zionist lobby is funding such a widespread propaganda campaign in an attempt to disrupt the positive global atmosphere created after the conclusion of nuclear negotiations.
Tehran and the P5+1 - the US, Russia, China, France, Britain, the US and Germany - finalized the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) over the Iranian nuclear program on July 14.
Based on its "religious principles and security doctrines," the Islamic Republic has never pursued a non-civilian nuclear program or engaged in any unconventional activities, which the country has to hide in a hurry, according to the statement.
The statement came a day after the US intelligence community claimed that Iran has started to "sanitize" the Parchin site. According to Bloomberg View on Wednesday, satellite imagery picked in mid- and late-July showed that Iran had deployed bulldozers and other heavy machinery to the Parchin site.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has already inspected Parchin, confirming that there is no nuclear activity in the military site.
