Press TV has conducted an interview with Sabah Jawad, director of Iraqi Democrats against Occupation in London, to discuss the recent gains achieved by the Iraqi army against the ISIL Takfiri terrorists in Anbar province.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: There have been concerns that the advance to retake Ramadi and Anbar Province as a whole has been slow. What do you make of the momentum and the gains?

Jawad: There was a momentum after the important victory that was achieved in Salahuddin, in Tikrit and so on. Because of the American positions and antagonism toward the Popular Mobilization Forces, they tried to prevent quick victory and almost total victory against positions of ISIS in Anbar, and preparing the ground for an attack on Mosul, but what the Mobilization Forces achieved in Ramadi and Fallujah are important battles against the terrorist Takfiri groups as well.

But they are facing some difficulties and some challenges not only on the military ground, they are successful with the military campaigns they launch and we have not lost any battle whatsoever since they started operations against Takfiri terrorists.

However, they are watchful of the American plan in Iraq. As you know, the Americans do not want total victory against ISIS. They want to utilize the card of ISIS to put pressure on whoever wants to oppose American proxies in the Middle East, like Iran, Syria, Hezbollah in Lebanon and the people in the area who do not want the domination of the United States. Therefore, the Americans are seeking containment of the terrorist groups and not total victory against them.

That is why they are plotting and organizing campaign to discredit the Mobilization Forces. With them actually in this plan is local politicians, local Iraqi political forces in alliance with the [Persian] Gulf states and formidable media campaign led by Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya to block and to distort the battle that is taking place against the terrorist groups. Any attack against ISIS is considered by the Saudi media as an attack against the Sunni population in Iraq which is not true.
