ISIL behind Suruc blast: Turkish premier
Initial investigations suggest that the ISIL Takfiri terrorist group was behind Monday's deadly bombing in the town of Suruc near the border with Syria, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu says.
"Preliminary findings point to it being a suicide attack carried out by Daesh (ISIL)," Davutoglu told a news conference in Ankara.
"But we are not at a point to make a final judgement," he added.
Meantime, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned the deadly bomb attack.
"Terror must be condemned," said Erdogan during a visit to the Turkish breakaway state in northern Cyprus.
"We are drowning in grief ... as a result of an act of terror," he said, adding, "On behalf of my people, I curse and condemn the perpetrators of this brutality."
Meanwhile, Turkish officials also say ISIL was most likely behind the blast which struck a cultural center in Suruc, a town opposite the Syrian flashpoint town of Kobane. ISIL is currently fighting the governments in Syria and Iraq and is widely believed to be supported by the Turkish government. The attack in Suruc would be the terrorist group's first strike on Turkish soil.
At least 30 people were killed and nearly a 100 wounded in the explosion which rocked the Amara Culture Center of the Suruç Municipality on Monday.
According to the latest reports, the perpetrator(s) targeted supporters of the Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF) who had gathered at the center before heading for Kobani to help the people there in rebuilding the war-ravaged town.
