Reports suggest that Labour MP's are plotting plans for a coup if Jeremy Corbyn wins leader's race.
When MP's were seeking nominations to enter the Labour leadership race, political commentators in the UK said it was near impossible for veteran far left politician, Jeremy Corbyn to get the needed signatures. When he did, it started a political earthquake for the Labour party.
Jeremy Corbyn has gone from an unlikely candidate to a front runner, with several private polls this week suggesting he could actually win the race.
Jeremy Corbyn enjoys huge grassroots popularity, but not among the mainstream labour MPs who are said to be planning a coup against him if he does manage to win the Labour leadership race.
Although at this point, he is winning still seems unlikely, his campaign has gained enough momentum to worry some parts of the Labour party.
One unnamed Labour MP has told the media that "we cannot just allow a party, a credible party of government, to be hijacked in the summer of madness. There would be no problem in getting names. We could do this before Christmas."
Another unnamed Labour MP has said that the victory would cause deep unhappiness among the current shadow cabinet and the most would refused to work with him.
Experts say this fallout is indicative of the current problem for labour. The mainstream politicians to the right of the party were battered at the poll, but where the grassroots indicate they want to return Labour firmly to the left of politics, the elite of the party are unhappy.
The campaign trail for the labour leadership contest will continue until September.
