Press TV has interviewed Jalal Fairooz, a Middle East expert in London, and Baraa Shiban, a Yemeni human rights activist from Birmingham, to discuss the UN’s silence over the Saudi aggression against Yemen.

Fairooz says what is going on in Yemen is “a big shame” for the UN, adding that the international body keeps silent on the Saudi violation of a recently announced truce in impoverished Yemen.

He also criticizes UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for his inaction for the continuation of war crimes against the Yemeni people.

Saudi airplanes have pounded hospitals, schools and homes in Yemen, but the atrocities did not wake the international community up, the political expert says.

The Human Rights Watch, the Amnesty International and the International Red Cross are talking about how the Yemeni civilians are attacked by Saudi warplanes, Fairooz says, adding that the UN does not play a proper role to establish a real ceasefire in Yemen.

For his part, Shiban believes “the previous UN Security Council’s resolution has not been respected,” adding that, “then, the aerial bombardment continues over Yemen and the result is the death of the Yemeni civilians.”

Without any political settlement, the war in Yemen will continue and the Yemeni people will pay the price, he says.
