Representatives from France’s largest employer federation, MEDEF (Mouvement des entreprises de France), will visit Iran in September to review investment opportunities in the country’s aviation sector.
Renovation of Iran’s transportation sector will top the agenda of the upcoming talks between French and Iranian officials, the Tasnim News Agency said on Monday.
Back in 2014, more than 100 MEDEF representatives traveled to Iran to explore investment opportunities in the country.
Refurbishing airports in the major Iranian cities of Tehran and Mashhad by the French companies will also be discussed in the upcoming negotiations.
Back in June, Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi, held talks with senior French officials, including over 70 MEDEF managers during an official visit to Paris.
“During the meetings, several issues including developing airports as well as the transportation infrastructure via participation of international investors were raised. Despite the bluffs, there was warm reception,” he said after returning to Tehran.
Iran has already announced that it plans to refurbish its aging aviation fleet. Iranian authorities say the country needs up to 500 aircraft to renovate the sector.
Facing US-led sanctions since the 1970s, the Islamic republic has been barred from buying aircraft manufactured by Western countries.
Major foreign companies, including aviation giants, have been keeping a close eye on the talks between Tehran and the P5+1 group of countries amid rising hopes that they could return to the country's lucrative market after anti-Iran sanctions are lifted as part of a final nuclear deal.
