US destroyer arrives in Black Sea for war games

USS Porter

An American warship has arrived in the Black Sea amid growing tensions between the United States and Russia over the crisis in Ukraine.

The guided-missile destroyer USS Porter entered the region on Monday.

The Arleigh Burke-class vessel is set to join military drills, called Operation Atlantic Resolve.

The United States army began the war games more than one year ago following the conflict in Ukraine.

Commander Blair Guy, USS Porter commanding officer, said the destroyer is in the region in order to advance stability.

“This is a dynamic environment and the continued engagement from US Navy ships operating in the Black Sea not only strengthens relationships with our allies but also contributes to the overall stability in the region,” Guy said.

Relations between Washington and Moscow have deteriorated over Ukraine.

The United States accuses Russia of sending troops into eastern Ukraine in support of the pro-Russian forces, an allegation denied by the Kremlin.

In an interview with Press TV on Sunday, US investigative journalist Wayne Madsen reiterated that the United States is seeking to replace Russian President Vladimir Putin with a CIA-backed regime.

“There are still these American dreams of ousting Putin and replacing him with some corrupt oligarch like Mikhail Khodorkovsky or a number of these CIA-supported and George Soros-supported Russian gangsters,” he said.
