Press TV has interviewed Ken O’Keefe, former US marine in London, and Jihad Mouracadeh, political commentator from Beirut, to discuss the ties between Turkey and the ISIL Takfiri militants.

O’Keefe says, “Turkey has played an instrumental role in channeling terrorists inside and outside of Syria.” He adds Ankara has provided foreign-backed armed groups in Syria with safe haven and military training with the involvement of the United States and its allies such as certain Persian Gulf monarchies.

The former US marine also says Turkey has adopted a hostile stance against Syrian interests and the consequences of its policies towards Syria can hardly be measured.

O'Keefe noted that Turkey is a chief benefactor of cheap oil exports from ISIL-held areas in Syria and Iraq, adding that Ankara channeled the ISIL-stolen oil to some European countries that have imposed sanctions on Syrian oil for a couple of years now.

For his part, Mouracadeh believes Turkey has been in favor of the presence of the ISIL Takfiri militants in Syria to fight the Syrian government. He also argues that the Turkish government is concerned about the rise of Kurdish forces, who are fighting the ISIL near its borders; therefore, Ankara benefits from the presence of the ISIL there.
