Perspolis to sign Moldovan goalie Serghei Paşcenco

Moldova's former goalkeeper Serghei Paşcenco

Iran’s football club Perspolis is reportedly finalizing a deal with Moldovan goalkeeper Serghei Paşcenco.

Ali Akbar Taheri, acting manager of Perspolis club, said Thursday that he has reached an agreement with Paşcenco and that the goalkeeper will sign his contract with the club on Friday.

Pashchenko joined the Iranian outfit Malavan in 2012 although he left the club halfway last season over what was later declared as financial problems. The 32-year-old has also played for the Moldova national team, featuring in 8 matches of the EUFA Euro 2008 qualifying stage.

The goalkeeper has a 10-year experience of playing in major clubs in Moldova, spending four stints with FC Sheriff Tiraspol, the most prolific team in the Moldovan National Division.

Persepolis finished eighth in the last edition of Iran’s Persian Gulf League, which ended in May, 23 points adrift of Sepahan F.C. at the top.

The team, which is believed to be the most popular in Iran, is struggling to retain its once glorious form amid speculation that the state-run club would be sold to private owners in the near future.
