Iraq's Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi will travel to the Iranian capital,Tehran, to meet and confer with senior Iranian officials.
Iran’s Ambassador to Iraq Hassan Danaifar said Monday that Abadi will arrive in Tehran this week and is expected to hold talks with Iranian officials on mutual cooperation, regional and international developments as well as anti-terrorism campaign.
According to Danaifar, Abadi’s visit comes at the invitation of Iranian First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri.
In mid February, heading a politico-economic delegation, Jahangiri traveled to Iraq and exchanged views with senior Iraqi officials, including Abadi.
During a meeting with Abadi, Jahangiri reiterated the Islamic Republic’s support for national unity in Iraq and its territorial integrity.
The Iranian first vice president further called on all countries to beef up efforts to combat ISIL Takfiri terrorists, who are currently wreaking havoc on Iraq and Syria.
The heavily-armed Takfiri terrorists have been carrying out horrific acts of violence, including public decapitations, against all communities such as Shias, Sunnis, Kurds and Christians.
Iranian officials have time and again stressed that Iran will not interfere militarily in Iraq and Syria, but that it will continue to provide support for both countries against ISIL in the form of defense consultation and humanitarian aid.
