Unity & Muslims

Muslim Unity

The size of the community of Muslims has continued to expand throughout the world over the last 14 centuries.

Unity is a primary divine imperative in Islam. Different ethnicities, races and tribes were held together under the umbrella of one community from the Atlantic Ocean to the South China Sea even before the era of globalization. The Ummah provides a transnational sense of identity and loyalty among Muslims in a common faith.

Islam's teachings urge Muslims to defend one another in situations of oppression and to enjoin the good in their societies.

However, divisions stemming from racism and sectarianism threaten to undermine the unity of Muslims in the modern age. Historic tolerance and respect of differences within the community of Muslims appear to be under siege.
