Iraqi army librates seven more villages in Anbar province
The Iraqi army and Popular Mobilization units have liberated seven villages across Anbar province from ISIL terrorists, Press TV reports.
Dozens of ISIL terrorists, including seven of their senior commanders, were also killed during the liberation campaign northeast of the central city of Karma. Some of the Takfiri posts were also targeted by the Iraqi Air Force northwest of the city.
“This region is the main gate to Baghdad. ISIL had been using it in recent months to dispatch explosives-loaded cars into the capital. At the same time, it is part of Anbar province. ISIL had established a base here,” said Abbas Abd Sada, the commander of the 8th Regiment of popular forces.
Fighters on the ground want to have a tight grip on these regions in order to keep a secure area around Baghdad.
On Monday, Iraqi troops and popular volunteer forces seized control of more than 10 major districts in Karma and on Tuesday, the Iraqi army repelled an attack by the Takfiri ISIL terrorist group on an army headquarters in the city.
The city of Karma is located 16 kilometers northeast of Fallujah, in the troubled western province of Anbar, and 48 kilometers west of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
The retaking of the districts has effectively cut off ISIL’s supply lines into Ramadi, the capital of Anbar province, which is currently under the control of the militants.
The ISIL terrorist group, which launched its deadly attacks in Syria in March 2011, expanded its campaign of violence to Iraq in June 2014, when its militants took control of Iraq’s second largest city, Mosul.
