The fighters of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah have repelled an attack by the ISIL terrorist group in an area on the Lebanon-Syria border, Lebanese media say.

A series of fierce clashes erupted after the ISIL terrorists tried to penetrate the Hezbollah defense installations in the Qarnat al-Samarmar and Qarnat al-Mathbaha areas of the northeastern Lebanese border village of Ras Baalbek, al-Manar news channel reported on Tuesday.

A number of ISIL militants were killed in the clashes.

Hezbollah sources say at least three vehicles, including a bulldozer, belonging to the ISIL group were also destroyed during the clashes.

Hezbollah fighters have recently managed to seize control of several strategic hilltops and crossings in the border area between Lebanon and Syria.

In recent weeks, Hezbollah has also managed to destroy several militant hideouts, as well as factories used for making booby traps.

The Hezbollah resistance movement is flushing the ISIL militants out of their last sanctuaries in the strategic Qalamoun mountainous region along the Syrian-Lebanese border.

Major gains following joint operations by the Syrian army and Hezbollah have strengthened the possibility of a full liberation of Qalamoun.
