Impact of Stephen Hawking denial of God

British scientist Stephan Hawking

In an interview with Spanish newspaper El Mundo, Stephan Hawking said “Before we understood science, it was natural to believe that God created the universe, but now science offers a more convincing explanation.”

He went on to say, “What I meant by ‘we would know the mind of God’ is we would know everything that God would know if there was a God, but there isn’t. I’m an atheist.”

What challenges does this poster boy for atheism pose for monotheism?
