US police clears 2 officers involved in fatal shooting of Ezell Ford

LOS ANGELES, CA - DECEMBER 29: Tritobia Ford lights candles at a memorial for her son, Ezell Ford, a 25-year-old mentally ill black man, at the site where he was shot and killed by two LAPD officers in August, on December 29, 2014 in Los Angeles, California. The long-awaited autopsy report, which was put on a security hold at the request of police and ordered by L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti to be made public before the end of 2014, was released December 29.  In a controversial decision, US police have cleared two officers involved in the fatal shooting of an unarmed black man last year.  The Los Angeles Police Department found the shooting of mentally ill Ezell Ford justified.

The department’s investigators say THAT’s because the 25-year-old struggled for control of one of the patrolmen's gun. The August killing fuelled protests over the police use of force. Most of the officers involved in fatal shootings aren't even charged. The majority of victims of police violence are members of the African-American community. Tensions are still running high between the US police force and African-Americans over the recent high profile cases of police brutality.
