US labor movement’s fight for survival

File photo shows protest signs at a union rally in Cleveland, Ohio.

Many believe it is a time of extreme weakness and vulnerability for union and labor across the US. In recent years, their power has been diminishing and membership is at an all time low.

Supporters call unions the backbone of America’s blue collar workers, while their critics believe unions are a symbol of violence, strikes and socialist influence.

Wisconsin Republican Governor Scott Walker has been a vocal critic of unions ever since he took office and has passed various laws in his state limiting the power of unions. He is also believed to be a Republican front runner for the 2016 US Presidential elections, although he has not announced his candidacy yet.

How do unions plan to survive and fight back against their opponents, especially if a Republican president enters the White House in 2016?
