Iran thrashes Tunisia 19-5 at FINA world event

Iran trounces Tunisia 19-5 at the FINA water polo event.

The Iranian national water polo team has made it three wins out of three matches at the 5th edition of the FINA World Men's Water Polo Development Trophy held in the Iranian capital of Tehran after trouncing Tunisia 19-5.

After overpowering Guatemala and Indonesia in their first two games, hosts Iran displayed their usual good performance on Wednesday and stormed to victory with a large margin against the North Africans.

The Iranians will next meet Austria at the capital’s Shahid Shiroudi Stadium in their last group B match on Thursday. A win against the Austrians will send Iran to the final of the competitions.

In the day’s other group B match, Austria crushed Guatemala 20-3.

Meanwhile in group A, Uruguay beat Malta 11-9 and Kuwait thrashed Morocco 20-5.

The FINA World Men's Water Polo Development Trophy aims to highlight the importance of the sport in nations where it enjoys less public attention.

The 5th edition of the event kicked off in Tehran on May 24 and will come to an end on May 29.
