Press TV has conducted an interview with Alan Hart, a London-based researcher and author, about Ottawa’s threats of legal action against anti-Israeli groups.

What follows is a rough transcription.

Press TV: Do you believe that the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel could be going to the next level, as we can see many organizations are even defying their own government’s warning to halt the encouragement [of] boycotts against Israel.

Hart: well, let us say for starters that news from Canada is really good because the Canadian government is, one might say, fanatically pro-Israel, right or wrong. And one could say that by default it is complicit in Israel’s crimes. At government level, Canada is more a province of Israel than an independent country. So this is seriously good news. Perhaps it does encourage hope that if the BDS movement gets even more energized and more focused it can have some impact but something you and all people in the world need to understand, is that it does not necessarily follow that even a very good BDS campaign would cause a change of policy in Israel. Because most Israeli Jews are brainwashed, they do not want to know the truth and if they really suffer from BDS they might say to themselves: “You see! This proves Zionism is right! The world hates us; the world can go to hell.” So it is not a simple issue.

Press TV: Looking at Canada as an example, Ottawa threatened many organization with this hate crime laws against actions to boycott Israel. How does that exactly work? When it is against Israel it is a hate crime, but in many other cases the issue of hate crimes is dropped and it is seen as even freedom of speech. We can allude to the fact of the insulting caricatures against the holy figures of Islam and etc.

Hart: Well, I think this tells you what a monster Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper is. I mean, it seems to me that he is almost taking a leaf out of Adolf Hitler’s book. I mean, what he is doing is absolutely reprehensible, but then he is a one hundred percent Zionist stooge.
