Iran, Slovakia to expand trade cooperation

Iranian, Slovak trade officials meet in Tehran.

Iran and Slovakia have unveiled plans to broaden their bilateral trade ties.

President of the Bratislava Chamber of Commerce Igor Jonas in a meeting with chairman of Tehran’s chamber of commerce expressed his country’s interest in boosting trade cooperation with the Islamic Republic, IRNA reported.

“There are diverse economic areas in which Iran and Slovakia can cooperate including power plant industry,” said Igor Jonas.

Heading a trade delegation, the Slovak official is in Iran to hold talks with Iranian officials.

“The trade cooperation between Iranian and Slovak manufacturers and economic activists would not be limited to ties with Slovakia and Iranians would be able to broker relations with other EU countries (through Slovakia),” Jonas noted.

He also said an Iranian trade delegation will travel to Slovakia later this year as part of efforts to discuss expansion of ties between Tehran and Bratislava.

Meanwhile, the chairman of Tehran’s chairman of Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, and Mines  said Iran and Slovakia should take steps in lifting obstacles to boost the level of bilateral economic ties.

Masoud Khansari reiterated that the Iranian government has already laid the ground for the promotion of ties between Iranian and Slovak private sectors via supporting bilateral investment and lifting double taxation.
