Iran’s Saket, German guitarists to hold concert in Tehran

Iranian Tar virtuoso, Keyvan Saket

Iranian Tar virtuoso Keyvan Saket is set to hold a fusion concert with a group of German guitarists in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

“This might be the first time that a group of foreign guitarists perform with an Iranian musician,” Saket said in a news conference on Saturday.

“The German ensemble wanted to hold a concert with an Eastern musician and invited me to accompany them in their program,” he added.

The German ensemble is sponsored by Goethe Institute, a non-profit German cultural association that encourages international cultural exchange and relations.

The concert will be held in three parts, presenting Baroque and Renaissance musical pieces, as well as pieces performed by the German group and Saket, accompanied by a large orchestra of professional Iranian musicians such as Naser Rahimi, Homayoun Rahimian, Karim Qorbani and Farshid Hefzifar.

The concert will be held at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall on May 28 and 29, 2015.

Keyvan Saket is an acclaimed Iranian composer and music researcher, who has held numerous concerts in Iran and other countries, such as Canada and Australia.

He has worked with many great Iranian musicians, including Hamid Motebassem and the late Parviz Meshkatian. Saket has also been experimenting with creative arrangements of well-known Western classical music using traditional Persian musical instruments, Tar and Setar.

Mozart’s colorful Symphony No. 40 and Brahms’ Hungarian Rhapsodies are among Western masterpieces recreated by Saket.

The prominent musician has created the Vaziri Orchestra with the aim of reviving the traditional style of Iranian composer and founder of Iran’s National Orchestra Alinaqi Vaziri.
