US foreign policy is a sick illusion: Analyst

“I made a mistake, plain and simple, and I have written about it in my book. I’ve talked about it in the past," Hillary Clinton said about her “mistake” as a senator in voting to authorize Iraq war.

A former US intelligence linguist says the US foreign policy is a “sick illusion” that was made by European oligarchs in their efforts to “dominate other nations”.

Scott Rickard made the remarks to Press TV while commenting on a statement by former US secretary of state Hillary Clinton over the current “dangerous situation” in Iraq.

Clinton said the current situation in Iraq is the result of her “mistake” as a senator in voting to authorize the war against the country in 2003.

The Democratic presidential candidate made the comments when asked if the world is better off without former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein in power.

“For sure, the decision to go to war with Iraq was a mistake anyone could see that,” said Rickard on Wednesday. “Unfortunately, the illusion of American foreign policy is quite the tricky situation.”

The issue is highlighted after presumed Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush said that he would have invaded the country in 2003 if he was the president of the United States.

“The Americans have gone to war over and over again, prior to the Iraq war, and including the Iran-Iraq war and many others, because of foreign policy that made absolutely no sense out of them in the back that it was in line with French and British and other European imperialist ideals,” Richard said.

“What you really see is the illusion of American foreign policy, whereby Hillary Clinton was caught in that illusion and was making decisions. In order to be a politician in the United States, you have to follow the illusion and you also have to support the illusion,” he noted.

“The illusion is made very clearly to the politicians… what issues they must support in order to maintain those positions.”

In 2003, Bush ordered the US-led invasion of Iraq under the pretext of finding weapons of mass destruction allegedly stockpiled by Saddam Hussein. That later proved to be false.
