A Saudi soldier has been killed in Jizan Region in the kingdom’s southwest during border clashes with Yemen’s Houthi fighters.

The border guard was named Hassan Someili, who died during confrontation with the Ansarullah fighters in the region’s Alharth governorate on Wednesday.

Jizan Border Guard chief Major General Mahya al-Otaibi also said that on Wednesday morning one of the soldiers of the Border Guard had been killed in confrontation with the Houthis, Saudi media reported.

The Saudi Interior Ministry later confirmed that mortar rounds and shells fired from Yemen killed an army serviceman in Jizan Region.

Sources have also pointed to intense clashes between the Saudi army and Ansarullah fighters in Najran Region on Yemen’s border.

Saudi Arabia has been waging a war against Yemen since March 26 - without a UN mandate - in a bid to restore power to the country’s fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour, who is a staunch ally of Riyadh.

Recent instances of Saudi aggression against the impoverished Arab Peninsula country have seen Saudi military aircraft firing some 200 missiles into al-Malahiz and al-Sabeh districts of the northwestern Yemeni province of Sa'ada.

Elsewhere in Yemen, Saudi warplanes have conducted four airstrikes against the southern coastal town of Zinjibar.

The Saudi jets also targeted a bridge in the Yarim district of Yemen's southwestern province of Ibb, leaving nine people dead and six others injured.

The United Nations has said since March 19, over 1,800 people have been killed and 7,330 injured due to the conflict in Yemen, which was exacerbated by the Saudi airstrikes.

Several Saudi soldiers have also been killed and injured ever since the beginning of Saudi attacks on Yemen and the escalation of border clashes between the two neighbors.
