US covering up its aggression on Russia and China: Analyst

The United States is trying to cover up its “aggression against China and Russia” through pressurizing its NATO allies to increase their military spending in a bid to remain united against Russia, says political commentator Jim W. Dean.

Dean made the comments in an interview with Press TV on Saturday when asked about remarks by a US Army’s top commander in Europe who said that failure among NATO allies to make a robust show of their military capabilities would embolden Russian President Vladimir Putin to take aggressive moves against the alliance.

“So far, we’re sticking together. And as long as we do and as long as we show that we are capable, then there isn’t going to be a Russian attack,” Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges said during a conference of alliance land commanders in Germany.

“This is a silly justification that the only reason that the US is involved with the Ukraine and trying to help them in the NATO association is they have to build a firewall against Putin’s desires to rebuild the old Soviet empire and move the Red Army into Eastern Europe,” said Dean, the managing director of Veterans Today.

“I think this is an absolutely laughable idea, I mean nobody here in the military actually believes this, it’s just a patent cover for the US clearly aggressive moves on China,” he said, adding “we’ve already admitted that we have a new cold war going (and) we want to contain Russia and China by ringing the whole area with bases.”

Hodges “is lying to the American people when he does this,” Dean said, noting that this is “a breach of trust, when we try to create a false threat as cover for an aggression of American military forces.”

“This general has totally embarrassed the country and he’s embarrassed the America’s veterans by saying something with creating this false duplication to cover American aggression against China and Russia,” he concluded.

Ties between Washington and Moscow have reached an all-time low over the crisis in Ukraine, which began after pro-Western forces ousted the country’s president, Viktor Yanukovych, in February 2014.

Washington accuses Moscow of providing heavy weaponry and training pro-Russian fighters and of deploying air defense systems in eastern Ukraine.

Russia, however, has denounced the accusations as “baseless” and said Washington is responsible for the crisis by sending arms in support of the Ukrainian army.

It has also warned that the US involvement in the crisis could further "destabilize" Ukraine. The conflict has killed more than 7,000 civilians and around 1,600 soldiers.
