What happened to Mohammed Emwazi? What drove a young man from west London to abandon his British life to become the ISIL executioner the world has seen on their screens?

In this episode of InFocus, I will travel across the country to ask these questions from experts, from those who can give me an explanation toward understanding the transition of Mohammed Emwazi.

ISIL has terrorized Iraq and Syria in recent times, dominating the media with their extremist violent acts and the manner in which they torture, kill and rule.

They have become the latest extremist organization to use barbaric acts of violence in order to spread their message across the world.

One man has become the advert for ISIL.

Mohammed Emwazi is the masked man that has been seen in numerous ISIL execution videos, standing in the desert holding a knife and speaking directly into the camera, giving his reasons for executing his hostages. He has shocked the world and was nicknamed “Jihadi John” for his distinctive London accent.

He was recently unmasked as Mohammed Emwazi, a young British man who grew up in London. This mysterious masked executioner was suddenly given a name and a face and the Western media was abuzz with accusations and assumptions. But there hasn’t been a concerted effort to find out why this man became the face of ISIL and what radicalized him.
