A military court in Egypt has handed jail terms to four students for taking part in anti-government protests.

A court in the Nile Delta province of Ash Sharqiyah sentenced the students from the University of Zagazig to ten years in jail each on Thursday.

On Wednesday, six other Zagazig and al-Azhar University students were given 12-year jail terms by another military court.

On the same day, nearly 70 supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi were sentenced to life in prison for alleged involvement in torching a church near the capital, Cairo, two years ago.

Hundreds of Morsi's supporters have been given death sentences or jail terms after often speedy mass trials.

Morsi, who was ousted by the army in July 2013, was himself given a 20-year prison term last week.

The United Nations has slammed the trials as unprecedented in recent history.

Amnesty International, among other rights groups, has denounced the mass trials and the heavy-handed crackdown by the Egyptian government on protesters and Morsi's supporters.
