Saudi Arabia should pay Yemen compensation: Iran MP
Saudi Arabia should make reparations to neighboring Yemen for wreaking havoc on the country during its unauthorized aggression, an Iranian lawmaker says.
“International institutions should demand compensation from Saudi Arabia” for its “brutal” aggression against Yemen, Spokesman for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iran’s Parliament Seyyed Hossein Naghavi Hosseini said on Thursday.
Saudi Arabia “brutally and hurriedly” launched military aggression against Yemen after noticing the emergence of “a democratic revolution" there.
Saudi Arabia started its military aggression against Yemen on March 26 - without a UN mandate - in a bid to restore power to fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, who is a close ally of Riyadh.
The international community, that is the regional countries, international bodies and institutions, should urge a political solution to the crisis in Yemen, so that Saudi Arabia cannot “use military aggression as a means to achieve its ends”, the Iranian lawmaker said.
The international community should also step up efforts to reconstruct Yemen's damaged infrastructure, he stressed.
The Iranian parliamentarian further praised the Yemeni people’s resistance against the Saudi aggression, adding that Riyadh is doomed to face a fiasco in Yemen.
“The Yemeni people’s patience, resistance and national resolve send the message to Saudi Arabia that aggression, bombardment and massacre cannot stop Yemeni people’s” revolution, he added.
“Certainly, the Yemeni people will emerge victorious in the future,” the Iranian MP said, adding, “Yemen will become a graveyard for Saudi Arabia.”
According to reports, nearly 1,000 people have been killed during the aggression.
