Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in front of the United Nations headquarters in New York on Friday, protesting against Saudi-led air strikes on Yemen.
Demonstrators carrying banners, posters and placards, along with the Yemeni national flag are also protesting what they call an international silence toward atrocities being committed by Saudi Arabia and its allies. They plan to take to the streets until their voices are heard.
Saudi-led warplanes launched airstrikes against Yemen over a week ago without a UN mandate. The strikes were meant to target the country's Houthi fighters, however many civilian infrastructures and residential areas have been destroyed as a result. According to the UN, Saudi airstrikes have killed nearly 200 people, including women and children in one of the Arab world's most impoverished nations.
Protestors say they hope the rally today will shed light on the situation in Yemen and will be a step toward "freedom and prosperity".
