Negotiators from Iran and China hold nuclear talks in Lausanne

Iranian deputy foreign ministers Abbas Araqchi (4th R) and Majid Takht-e Ravanchi (5th R), and China’s Deputy Foreign Minister Wang Qun (2nd L) meet in Lausanne, Switzerland, on March 27, 2015.

Deputy foreign ministers of Iran and China have held talks about Tehran’s nuclear program in the Swiss city of Lausanne.

Iran’s deputy foreign ministers Abbas Araqchi and Majid Takht-e Ravanchi and China’s Deputy Foreign Minister Wang Qun on Friday discussed outstanding issues pertaining to Iran's nuclear issue.

The officials also exchanged views on ways to find solutions to issues which Iran and the P5+1 group of countries have so far failed to resolve.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Araqchi described the meeting with the Chinese diplomat as very good.

No plan to extend talks

Araqchi further said Iran and the P5+1 countries have no plan to extend the ongoing negotiations into Tuesday.

He added that foreign ministers of the six countries would join the talks in Lausanne on Saturday and Sunday.

The Iranian negotiator expressed hope that the sides would manage to find solutions to the outstanding issues.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and US Secretary of State John Kerry kicked off a fresh round of talks about Tehran’s nuclear program in Lausanne on Thursday as part of broader negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 countries aimed at clinching a final nuclear deal.

Iran and the six global powers – the US, Britain, France, Russia and China plus Germany -- have been in talks to resolve outstanding issues surrounding Tehran’s nuclear activities to pave the way for striking an overarching deal on the country’s nuclear program as a deadline slated for July 1 draws closer.
