Press TV has conducted an interview with Stephen Lendman, an author and radio host from Chicago, to discuss the ongoing tensions between the West and Russia over the crisis in Ukraine.

The political commentator maintains that the United States and its allies are in fact directing the battle in eastern Ukraine and committing crimes against the mainly Russian-speaking regions in the country.

He also believes that the administration of US President Barack Obama seeks to use the Ukraine conflict as a pretext to engage in a direct confrontation with Russia, expressing fears that the tensions between Washington and Moscow could lead to a full scale nuclear war.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the analyst says the United States spent billions of dollars to engineer an entire coup against the former pro-Kremlin president, Viktor Yanukovych, last year and installed pro-Western Nazi authorities in Ukraine.
