The Widow Colony in India

Back in 1984 thousands of Indian Sikhs were massacred in one of the worst communal violence in India's history.

Following the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her two Sikh body guards, the suspected Hindu mob went on a rampage and slaughtered thousands of Sikhs.

According to reports around 8,000 Sikhs were massacred across the country, the capital New Delhi however was the worst affected with more than 2,500 suspected deaths reported.

There is neighborhood in New Delhi which is no different from other localities but in its past lies a hidden scar, the scar of massacre of thousands of innocent Sikhs; the memories of the sad event continue to haunt the victims' families.

The colony is commonly known as the Widow Colony, where the displaced women are silently rebuilding their shattered lives.
