China and Russia will continue to support each other and jointly uphold international peace as both countries are permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi says.

Wang made the remarks on Sunday during a news conference on the sidelines of the ongoing 2nd National People’s Congress (NPC) in the capital Beijing.

“Russia and China are permanent members of the UN Security Council. We shall continue strategic coordination and cooperation for support of the international peace and security,” said Wang, adding, “The practical cooperation between China and Russia is based on mutual need, it seeks win-win results and has enormous internal impetus and room for expansion.”

The Chinese minister (pictured above) also said Moscow and Beijing will hold a series of events to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, adding the two countries will defend the outcome of the 1939-1945 war.

“This year, both countries will have large-scale events devoted to the 70th anniversary of Victory in the war against fascism. We shall be supporting each other, support jointly the international peace and defend results of World War II,” said Wang.

Furthermore, Wang said China and Russia will continue to improve bilateral cooperation in various sectors including financial, oil and gas, as well as nuclear power.

Wang stated that China and Russia are set to sign a deal to work on the Silk Road Economic Belt, adding, “We will work hard to lift two-way trade volume to 100 billion US dollars.”

The two countries will also begin strategic cooperation on the development of Russia’s Far Eastern region and strengthen our cooperation on high-speed railway, the minister said.
