Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW) kicked off its activities in the Gaza Strip. This is the seventh time that the event is held in the blockaded coastal enclave.
Israeli Apartheid Week has grown to become one of the most important international Palestine solidarity activities for nearly a decade.
The annual international event echoes the height of South African anti Apartheid Movements in the 70s and 80s and sheds light on Israeli Apartheid policies against Palestinians.
Many international activists took part in past Israeli Apartheid Week events in Gaza, but this year activist were only able to send recorded video messages to the participants in Gaza due to the Israeli blockade.
The main theme of Israeli Apartheid Week is Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) of Israeli goods and products as well as Israeli cultural and academic activities worldwide.
Support for the (BDS) movement has increased following Israel’s recent war on the Gaza Strip that killed and injured thousands of Palestinians.
Israeli Apartheid Week is an international event that aims to highlight the suffering of Palestinians under Tel-Aviv’s racist policies.
Every year during this week, ceremonies are held in dozens of cities around the globe to denounce Israeli policies.
