Indian optometrist makes lenses with gold, diamonds

The file photo shows Dr. Chandrashekhar Chawan wearing one of his 24-carat gold contact lenses.

An optometrist in India has come up with fancy eye contact lenses that will bring that special twinkle to your eyes.

Chandrashekhar Chawan, an optometrist at India’s Shekhar Eye Research Center, has created gold-plated, diamond-encrusted contact lenses.

The lenses come with 18 diamonds embedded in yellow or white gold. The lenses weigh five grams in total and can be customized to correct any visual impairment.

The lenses are also designed to retain water and will not stop oxygen from reaching the eye, making them comfortable to wear.

And if you are planning to have a pair of the eyewear, it will cost you between 15 and 18 thousand dollars.
