Britain’s support for Bahrain

British Prime Minister David Cameron (L) and Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa

Mainstream British media and the British government are very quiet about the situation in Bahrain, its dictatorship and its brutal crackdown on peaceful protesters.

For the past four years, people in Bahrain have protested against the Al Khalifa regime, its human rights abuses, including the torture and killing of protesters.

Bahrain refers to peaceful human rights protesters and journalists as “terrorists.”

Yet this country has the staunchest of supporters, namely Britain and the United States. Recently, Britain’s Foreign Secretary Phillip Hammond absurdly declared Bahrain as “a country which is travelling in the right direction.”
