Missing migrant children in Italy

According to data from Italy's Welfare Ministry, more than 3,700 migrant children went missing in 2014.

However the true number is likely higher, the ministry acknowledged, since many went missing before being formally registered.

Italian law mandates that minors landing on Italian soil be provided with safe housing, informed of options for securing a visa and assigned a legal guardian. The reality is quite different.

Young migrants languish for months in reception centers unequipped to provide longer-term care. They sometimes receive no legal guardian and aren't informed of their legal rights for months, in part due to a lack of translators. Max Civili reports from Rome.
