Kashmir falling prey to drug addiction

Known for its picturesque beauty, Indian-controlled Kashmir is fast growing into a hub of drug addiction.

Studies have shown that Kashmir's youth, whose growing years were marred by violence and uncertainty, are falling prey to the growing menace. Lack of employment opportunities, bleak future prospects, and family tensions are adding to their woes.

Waking up to the disturbing phenomenon, Kashmir's police department in 2008 launched a massive de-addiction campaign and opened a rehabilitation center in Kashmir's capital city Srinagar. Syed Ali Safvi reports from Kashmir.
