Powering Uganda by solar energy

By using solar energy Uganda makes its electricity supply more resilient to climate change.

Uganda turns to solar energy as it grapples with rapid deforestation that has left several parts of the country dry as trees disappear.

The East African country is now using its first large-scale solar power hybrid as a way of controlling and protecting the environment from degradation.

Hundreds of people who previously used firewood as a source of energy are now using solar energy, a move the government hopes will go a long way to save the environment. Our correspondent Daniel Arapmoi reports from Kampala.
